The Textual Characteristics of the Holy Defense Tribute Poems in the Early Iran-Iraq War (1980-1984) and the Role of Historical Context in Their Creation

Abstract
The tribute poem is one of the most important textual approaches in Holy Defense, especially in the early years of the war, which corresponded to the military-historical context of the Iraqi war against Iran. Therefore, its textual features can be evaluated on three musical, rhetorical, and ideational levels based on the context of war and constructive criticism. The tribute poem of the holy defense belongs to the two principal axes of honoring “special concepts” and “general concepts.” Honoring special concepts is about the personality dimensions of Imam Khomeini (RA) and the stratum of warriors and martyrs, and honoring general concepts is about the honored status, role, and performance during the war. The specifics of the military history of the war in 1982 and 1983 (including decision-making and decisive operations) draw the poets’ attention more than before to the role of warriors and their performance and the growth of tribute poetry in those years and led the tribute poetry to grow. The predominant form of tribute poetry is the sonnet and quatrain. On the musical level, the prosody and rhyme are more important than the internal and semantic layers. On the rhetorical level, simile is dominant, mostly sensual to sensual and concrete similes with a narrow and predictable angle. In the study of semantics, the core approach is inferential and based on the secondary meaning of informative statements with the theme of “bow and tribute.” The narrative attitude of the poems is a positive one based on mental certainty and decisive general values. This period’s tribute poetry is considered traditionalist poetry, which tends to be brevity and whose textual levels correspond to reality and move away from fantasy.
