Abstract
Resistance literature, a form of politically engaged writing, encompasses works depicting awakening, justice, uprisings, and resistance against coercion and oppression.
Contemporary Resistance poetry, i.e., the poems of resistance in the period leading up to the Islamic Revolution to the present time, includes anti-oppression and awakening poems around the revolution (since the second Pahlavi era) and in successive periods has used various and varied methods to achieve its goals in the path of resistance and stability. One of the main methods of Resistance poetry toward building up an anti-oppression and awakening atmosphere is symbolism. Symbolism allows poets to express their thoughts more succinctly yet profoundly. The symbol, according to its various characteristics and functions, can effectively enhance the formal and content level of poetry. In this regard, it is used in various ways in contemporary resistance poetry. This research aims to investigate the symbols used in contemporary resistance poetry to identify the poets’ goals of symbolism, to answer the question of the main applications, and, in the next step, what are the most important functions and indicators of symbolism in resistance poems?
